Producer of ′You′re the Best Lee Soon Shin′ Talks About Low Ratings

The producer of KBS2′s You′re the Best Lee Soon Shin opened up on the relatively low ratings his drama has been getting these days.

He said, "We were really pressured because our predecessor was so successful. We′re currently trying to evaluate why, but I think [ratings are low because of] seasonal reasons."

He added, "Our predecessor also suffered in viewership ratings in May, and we know our ratings are lower than expected even considering how KBS dramas have relatively low ratings on Saturday and rise on Sunday. Many have shown concern over how we haven′t been able to pass 30 percent and how we failed to get on a rising curve, and we′re trying to evaluate why this is happening."

You′re the Best Lee Soon Shin′s predecessors My Daughter Seo Young and Unexpected You have all surpassed 40 percent in viewership ratings, making names for themselves as the most popular dramas of their time. You′re the Best Lee Soon Shin, however, has been settling at 20 percent.

"Our drama has a younger mood to it compared to other weekend dramas," producer Yoon said. "The romance between Jo Jeong Seok and IU constitutes one part of the story while the secret behind IU′s birth takes up the other, and this hasn′t been appealing to those in their 50s and 60s, our main viewer groups."

He then said, "We′re trying to figure out how we can get our main target (50s and 60s) back. We′ve established our characters up to now and shown what the story will be like, so from the May 18 episode, our 21st, we plan to pick up speed."

He finished, "I believe viewers will start to show favorable reactions if we keep pushing the romance between Jun Ho (Jo Jeong Seok) and Soon Shin (IU). We have 30 episodes left, and I believe the conclusion will be the most important. We will have this end beautifully."
